The Bowdoin College Museum of Art is one of the finest college art museums in the nation. With a collection that began with a bequest from the College’s founder in 1811, it is also one of the oldest collegiate art museums in the United States. During the past two centuries, its collections have grown to include more than 20,000 works made throughout human history and from around the world. Located in the Walker Art Building, designed by Charles F. McKim in 1894 and thoughtfully expanded by Machado & Silvetti in 2007, the Museum offers a year-round schedule of exhibitions and programs that are open to the public free of charge.
