In Thread of Her Scent, Harpswell-based painter Emile Stark-Menneg (born 1984) presents a new body of work that reimagines the stories of the unicorn in The Unicorn Tapestries at the MET Cloisters and The Lady and the Unicorn at Musée de Cluny. Woven around 1500, these medieval weavings depict a coveted unicorn in a fantastical world. As implied by its title, Stark-Menneg’s paintings pay homage to the tapestries while offering a contemporary response. In her own words, the artworks “rupture into an unruly paradise of plants and animals where the unicorn and the maiden can finally run free.”

Momentum, a new exhibition series at the Farnsworth, is dedicated to the next generation of artists with long-standing connections to Maine.
